Poetry Contest Guidelines
1. All contests require a THEME. The theme is selected from Poetry Categories
For example: If you see the theme listed as Family Poems, the type of poem you wish to enter should have FAMILY as the theme.
2. All contests require a FORM. The Form is selected from Poetry By Forms
For example: If you see the form listed as a McWhirtle, the form of the poem you wish to enter should be a MCWHIRTLE.
3. All contests have a SUBMISSION DEADLINE
When we first announce a new contest, when you arrive in the contest area, you will see the SUBMISSION DEADLINE listed. Simply enter your poem before that deadline, and your poem will be part of the contest.
4. All contests have a JUDGING BEGINS date
| When
we first announce a new contest, when you arrive in the contest area, you
will see the JUDGING BEGINS date
listed. This is the date that judging begins. Keep in mind, your entry may
not be in the first grouping! Depending upon the number of entries, there
may be several groupings within each round. ALL of our contests are judged
by you! No input is contributed by admin. For each ROUND
you will select 3 poems you wish to move onto the next round. That's it!
Members will vote until a winner is chosen from the entries. |
5. All contests contain GROUPS
For example: If we have 50 entries into a contest, we will typically create 5 GROUPS of 10 poems. Voting is conducted until all GROUPS of entries have been shown within a given Round. Sometimes there might be an odd number of poems listed within a GROUP. It all depends upon the total # of poems entered.
6. All contests have ROUNDS
For example: Using #5 as the example contest, we would show you 5 groups of poems in ROUND ONE. Once all poems have been voted on by members, the top vote-getters move on to ROUND TWO, ROUND THREE, and so forth until the top poems have been determined.
7. All contests have a FINAL ROUND
For example: Once the top poems are determined by member voting, these top poems will appear in the FINAL ROUND. The Contest Winner is determined by the total points earned in this FINAL ROUND. In the event of a tie, both participants will receive the prize offered.
8. All contest winners are listed on the WINNERS WALL
Our WINNERS WALL lists all of our previous contest winners, and their winning poems.
9. All contest winners will earn a Poetry Contest Win WORLD ICON
Earn a Poetry Contest Win World Icon for each poetry contest you win! Earn 5 icons, and you will earn the Planet Icon JUPITER.
Poetry Contest Voting Overview
1. Round Voting
Once a contest begins, you will see GROUPS of poems within each ROUND. The number of GROUPS and the number of ROUNDS depends upon the number of contest entries.
For each GROUP, all you need to do is select the 3 poems you wish to advance to the next ROUND. We will announce when a new GROUP of poems and when a new ROUND begins.
2. Final Round Voting
For the FINAL ROUND, you will assign each poem anywhere from 1-10 points. The poem that receives the highest total points wins the contest.
* You may edit your contest poem right up until the JUDGING BEGINS date!
